Some examples of cartoonists taking it easy on Labor Day. That’s not accurate, of course, because these comics would have been drawn some days ago.
Nancy steals from the future.

Arlo and Janis hearken back to an older Nancy comic:

Tank McNamara could just put new dialogue into the radio show form he often uses.

Gasoline Alley often just closes down.

The book “The Best of Ernie Bushmiller’s Nancy” includes that gag and a few variations. Nancy and Sluggo walking in a cloud of smog so he only has to draw their feet; Nancy and Sluggo printed on the page with a rubber stamp, and Nancy walking, mostly concealed by various obstructions (“Sorry — Nancy wouldn’t appear today — She refused to work on Labor Day”).
(Trying for a third time to comment, darn you WP…and the squirrel).
“Closed for Labor Day” and yet Scancarelli drew three different presumably (to a non-artist like me) time-consuming images.
Today’s Nancy continues the trend, with some bonus fourth wall breakage.
Targuman – on three different years. 2003 for the middle one, I think 2008 for the first and I can’t read the date on the third but I think it’s got a 1 (201x). Also, could be drawn any time – draw next year’s the day after Labor Day or any time he has downtime, it doesn’t have to sync with anything else going on.
[…] This one’s a clear nod to classic Bushmiller gags, one of which I posted a few days ago. […]
