Are they zombies? Is this a comic with a touching / sad backstory about a dying couple Harry Bliss knows? What’s your guess?

If the cartoonist is trying to be Charles Addams or Gahan Wilson, he is not succeeding.
I feel like it has a romantic vibe, for what that’s worth, albeit a morbid one. As though they’ve transcended, “‘Til death do us part.” I, too, would like to hear other takes – I think there’s a lot of room for interpretation.
Also I like it a lot. I really want Harry Bliss to be a worse cartoonist so I can rhyme his name with “hit or miss,” but I never have managed to find the chance, even when IDU his C.
My thought was a version of same – “I will love you until I die.”
It’s the well-known fact that we are all born in the process of dying. Deep philosophy.
