Now marking as a CIDU, for readers not familiar with the yips.

In the top featured illustration, something makes it feel like they are riding toward the the needle which they are facing and which they will soon see knocking them apart.
However, if you remember (or actually can still check with a working one!), the turntable goes clockwise (as viewed from above) — so they are riding backwards and will have a brief time together before bumping into the tonearm/cartridge/needle assembly from the back.
Although the “yips” is indeed a well-known concept among golfers, I think it’s a little obscure for a mainstream comic strip.
It’s quite possible that they’re Lesbians. But I think there is a preliminary step in the “back” story — they’ve swapped suits!
Well, then I guess we can retroactively CIDU it. If we don’t get the typing yips.
I think yips are also fairly well know in baseball, so perhaps it is a sports thing. They were just talking about them on the Cubs radio broadcast the other day.
One of the most amazing cases of the “yips” in baseball was Cardinals pitcher Rick Ankiel. He threw five wild pitches in an inning and never really recovered effective control. His Major League pitching career was essentially over.
In a further twist to the tale, he switched to the outfield and had a Major League career that saw him hit 47 homeruns.
The ladies could also be twins. Some twins match enough to be the same size and if they had matching bathing suits they might just each pull out one to wear and the last time they wore the opposite suits.
Or of course, the ladies were in their suits, went inside,c undressed for some reason (why hmmm?) and then put the wrong ones when they redressed – this later being the more salacious idea.
Oh wait – as I was about to hit enter to post –
The suits are rentals and this time they were each given a suit in the style that the other was wearing in the past.
Thanks for those several speculations on how their suits could get switched! It does seem to me that all of those options are a secondary chuckle, and the main amusing thing to notice is simply the complementarity of the tan-line patternings.
Did their heads get chopped off because of the way the straps crossed in the front?
