Thanks to Tim Harrod for sending this in, and for his comments (below).

“Another baffler from the Hart estate. What has the Wizard done that’s transgressive, that he wouldn’t want to be connected to or blamed for? Does he think lumberjacks will be pissed that he’s slightly undoing their labor? I’m pretty sure they just want the wood.”
Some trees will resprout all by themselves when chopped down (or blown over). The latter happened to a large tree in parkland near our house. By next Spring, a huge area near the tree was full of new saplings that had sprung up from the roots. I’ve seen other cases in which the sprouts all came up from the base of the trunk.
The Wiz does a nice thing (helping a clear-cut forest regrow) and doesn’t want his reputation as evil (by Hart standards) to be undermined.
WK has it. There’s been other strips where Wiz does something nice but doesn’t want it getting out because his reputation might suffer.
Is the Wiz evil? I’ve never really seen him as such. Ther Kuing is the evil one.
