Oh yes, I’ve seen ads for that phone, haven’t you?

Perhaps only a bit stranger than Janus, a star that has one side hydrogen, the other side helium https://arstechnica.com/science/2023/07/this-white-dwarf-star-has-two-faces/

A pretty nice Meta comic! I’ll look forward to seeing the color version, and checking what elements are red. Meanwhile, here is a red tee fitting for reference :

Well, here it is! Nope, nothing exciting to be learned …

(No language issues here, so we are not including the Spanish version.)

I’ve never seen an ad for one of those phones, but I did buy one of them about 15 or 20 years ago. My wife was unhappy with the tiny Samsung “dumb-phone” she had back then, and wanted a replacement with “big buttons, large display, and a loud ringer“. The salesman at the local Telekom shop sold me a so-called “retiree’s phone”, which also had an extra button to activate a flashlight, but the funniest feature was a little plastic card that could be pulled out from a slot to record the names stored on each of the nine “quick dial” numbers.

Grawlix: the viewer is not right in front of the sign, as one would normally be, but far enough away to require binoculars to see the sign. Thus he is “way over there.”

I was perfectly happy with my Palm Centro – but then I had to change phones and got a Blackberry (eh). Then the Blackberry lost its ability to make phone calls and later to connect to the Internet (it could do everything but same). So I had to get a new phone. Robert found me a wonderful 4G Samsung phone – it worked well – still does. If not as much nirvana as the Centro, it was more than adequate to use.

The I got a notice that 3G was being discontinued – didn’t bother me, I had a 4G phone. Robert found out that somehow my 4G was being discontinued as part of 3G being discontinued. He knows that I do NOT take change easily. He looked and looked and found a 5G phone that was as small as he could find, it was priced okay for us to spend, had good reviews and so we bought it.

Unfortunately small is a relative term (as is affordable) It is at least 1/3 larger than my Samsung was. If I am not careful in how I hold it in my almost child sized hands it falls off the back of my hand. In addition apparently most of what I like about my Samsung is their own system which is over the Android system. Can you see that I am going to say that I HATE this phone. All of the apps (which as an old fogy I call software) that I like are gone – I like a calendar with black writing on white background and no icons – best he could do was black bubbles (I really don’t want bubbles) with white writing and changing what I am writing to get rid of the icons (as in listing “supper” instead of “dinner).

I hate this phone – but am stuck with it as there is no alternative.

I should mention that I still use my old phones. The Palm is still synced just about daily with Lotus Organizer which is on a virtual Win XP machine in each of my computers. (Yeah, I like LO that MUCH – best organizer program I have ever used.) The cord connection to the computer is soon going to be too broken to use (and this is my second cord as he had a Palm also and I am actually using his Palm with his cord as mine of each died some time ago) but I actually found that I can buy a new cord for something like $4 and $7 (all U.S.) shipping – he thought that silly, but I pointed out if I found a new cord for $20 and wanted it we would do so. Every week I connect my Samsung to wifi and update the calendar etc. on it. The Blackberry – well all it has been good for is playing games and keeping a convenient calendar just to look up dates on same when I need to do so by just hitting the power button and the calendar is there and am using the other phones for other things, but it suddenly is “not well” (I tend to anthropomorphize everything) and either the battery is dead for an extended amount of time recharging, it works for a short time after a LONG charge of days or weeks, or it just does not work. But not giving up on it yet.

(Yes, I am THAT CRAZY and he loves me THAT MUCH.)
