(This is an OY by virtue of the “language play in any general way” subcategory.)
It seems Diamond Lil concentrates on OY punchlines almost every day; so it would be a danger to keep too often considering them for our weekly OY collections. Still, every once in a while, maybe for no particular reason, one of them will jump out and say “Use me!”.

Thanks to Philip for suggesting!

And if this was a semi-CIDU for you, let Editor Phil help out by pointing out that just before this moment of dialogue, the visitor must have addressed this officer as “Skipper”.
The Chuckle Bros one makes no sense to me, because in my dialect you “jump” rope. You don’t skip it.
Same here, but I did eventually get the joke.
My favorite is the Diamond Little. I hope he could open the door to get into the cafe!
Other than the “First Class” rerun that we saw three weeks ago, this is only the second time that a (current) “Big Nate” strip has ever appeared at CIDU (since the meltdown, at least), and the first one was nearly four years ago. Both strips seem to show that I haven’t read any “Big Nate” at all since before I moved to Germany: Nate’s head seems “shorter” than I expected; he and his friend appear significantly younger than what I was used to.
Thank you Phil! The skipper one was a CIDU to me…
There was an ice cream shop in Harvard Square in Cambridge that opened in what used to be a bank branch office. There were tables in the vault and you could eat in there if you wanted. I’m sure there are other “Bank Vault Cafes”. There weren’t any punny ice cream flavors or sundae names.
There’s a pizza place in an old bank here – there was a…bar, I think, before that, that did use punny references, but it went bust pretty quickly. We got a tour once, you could eat (or drink) in the vault (but they could only fit in one small table). The pizza place doesn’t much reference the bank stuff – we’ve eaten there a couple times, it’s good. Don’t know if you can still get into the vault.
