I think the reason the appointment was cancelled is obvious (the “12/25” in the upper left corner). In addition, the “2019” shows that this comic is not related to any social distancing concerns.

Comics I Don't Understand 
With many of these hard to get cartoons, the real explanation is that the cartoonist was up against a deadline with his rent overdue.
