One of the most annoying varieties of would-be pedants is the one who gratuitously replaces “who” with “whom,” or “me” with “I,” thinking it makes them sound smarter.

Is somebody else buying Janis’s underwear for her these days?
I’m pretty sure I asked the same rhetorical question the last time she made a similar complaint (though it’s possible this strip is a repeat and my mind is going).
Either way, if the state if her underwear is bothering her so much, there’s a startlingly simple solution…

Actually, they did.
Traditionally, Memorial Day was May 30. Starting in 1971, it became the last Monday in May. So in five years out of every seven, the span between Memorial Day and Labor Day was lengthened, and only shortened one year out of seven.
