Society really expects a lot from cartoon animals. I mean, look at Pinky and the Brain, the lab mice. Pinky’s portrayed as an idiot — but in a universe where animals don’t talk, he can talk. He’s no Brain, granted, but this is pretty damn impressive.

Even Algernon never talked.
