Here in the UK both garden waste and food waste currently go in the green bin to be taken away and composted. From April food waste will get its own grey bin so the comic could be relevant then. But black bags are only used to collect waste for the black bin for non-recyclable waste so it shouldn’t be in the green bin anyway.

I suspect that the lady is a specific entertainment figure and this is a reference to song lyrics.

I think she’s just commenting on the arrangement, as in “No, I don’t like the sofa there. Move it to the other wall. No, I don’t like that either.”

beckoningchasm: Sounds good. It’s the use of ‘going in there’ that seems a bit ‘off’.
I’ve noticed this panel often turns up as a ‘CIDU’, but almost never as ‘LOL’.

We stopped using a garbage can outside generally. Our weekly garbage generally fits in a 13 gallon bag. We have general pickup twice a week – we leave the prior week’s 13 gallon bag (kept in kitchen and 2 bathrooms’ pails are emptied into it before it goes out) at the curb and it is taken. Occasionally we have a larger bag (30 gallon) if we have been doing something around the house. Since this last Christmas husband joined me in not getting any gifts we did not have extra garbage from same.

I keep wondering – “are we doing a good job of not using products which cause a lot of garbage or do we just keep too much and not throw it out?”

Recycling tends to go out every 2 to 4 weeks as not enough to put out in a normal week, so every couple of weeks or so. We had so much snow which lasted so long, that we were not able to put out the recycling for over a month. Since then been too cold to stand in porch and tie up newspapers. Had a decent day last week so it all went out.

We do have a large pail outside, but it can take a month or so (or just a day or two depending on what is going on) to fill it, which is why we just put the bag from the kitchen + house out on its own.

I was trying to use just a bag at the suburban house, but I started having issues with pickup misses. I saw the driver go right by one day and ran out there. He said, “You have a bin!” I replied that I didn’t have to use it, to which he said, “It sure would help!” So I use it when it put our trash, even for small bags.

Brian – We had a rather large (based on recent years measured in inches or none past few years) snow storm of about 2 feet or more around here. Even worse is that we have a small property with a semi-circle driveway plus a straight section of it – so when that is cleared of snow onto what is probably less than or around 1/4 of the front property, the snow was stacked up about as tall as me (say 5 feet or more).

Since we do not end up with a lot of garbage we generally put out the one small 13 gallon bag at the street where the pail would normally be left, so we do not have dealing with bringing it up to the house after pick up – and we don’t end up with the lid and/or pail out in the 4 lane, 40 mph, main street we live on. (Once a month or so there may be a second bag of the same size for some reason. )

I was concerned that the “sanitation department employees” might not notice the small bag sitting atop the snow waiting to be taken – but they did see and take it!

Here we have uniform wheeled bins that they can pick up with the big fork on the truck.
