The joke is, even he doesn’t think that’s a good joke (in the strip he’s writing in his strip). The bad joke is, cop hears “fast” and gets ready to write a ticket. Meta…
As JJ says. The meme images aren’t important to the comic. They’re just to stylize the comic-within-a-comic, like Billy’s crayon work in the Family Circus or Rat’s crude art when he takes over Pearls.
Thanks, jjmcgaffey’s reading seems right, and clears it up.
What maybe made it harder for me was not recognizing that the overhead object in the last panel was the crumpled sheet on which he had been drawing the comic.
Thanks to JJ, Andrew and Mitch4 for clearing it up. I think it would have been a lot less confusing had the cartoonist just used his own drawings rather than the meme ones. As it was, I got the joke but the meme drawings made me think there was something else I was missing.
I was good until the last panel when the tossed paper turned into … I don’t know … a random light or something that should be ignored? So I thought he was just raising his hand to ask a question or a “that’s on me” acknowledgement.
Thank you for pointing out that he’s tossing it.
Thanks, Mitch4 (3). I was wondering why he was raising his hand/hoof. That said, Dark Side has often been WTF for me.
