What’s that black object (circled)? A gift from the cats? To the cats?

I’m pretty sure that is the shadow from the backlit mouse peeking out at the caterwauling, er… cats caroling.
As guero says. This colorist even went so far as to add a warm yellow glow of light coming out to highlight the shadow.
I also appreciate that the mice shoveled a couple feet out from their exterior(!) door. Probably just to get ready for the cats! The mice aren’t going out in that weather. It’s a fun little detail either way.
Agreed, elongated shadow of a mousie.
It’s either a mouse or a d**k with whiskers. Merry Creepsmas!
I’m not sure I understand the intention of the joke. Yes, that is the mouse’s shadow and the cats are huddled around the shoveled pathway, presumably singing. The lady of the house is looking down at the carnage that is about to happen. And?
Yeah. It kind of says the carolers are predators of the home dwellers…It’s cute, if you don’t actually try to think about it.
I don’t think that this is as dark as people here are saying. The human carolers are singing to the folks in the house; the cats are singing carols to a small inhabitant of the same house.
Tidings of comfort and joy to you all!
Oh, yeah, magicalqueen267f799697 has it right with the dual caroling.
Well, there’s a Tom & Jerry cartoon in which the cat and the mouse give each other nice Christmas presents, taking one day off from trying to kill each other.

Mark: You may be thinking of this one, although peace and gifts don’t happen until after mayhem around the Christmas tree: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V-WVBkWj-g
