Jack Applin sends this in: “Baldo, Estella, and Cruz (orange cap) encounter “Man o’ the Cave” (in Flintstone garb) at a carnival. The caveman tries to walk out with Baldo & friends, and is stopped by the guard. WHY? Is he a prisoner? Does carnival security keep track of groups entering, and insist that they leave in eactly the same groups?”
The next day’s Baldo clarifies the intended joke, but does the old guy really look like Cruz’s double?

Not sure I get it, either. The woman looks like a real cop to me – uniform, badge, tac vest, sidearm.
I feel like we’ve glimpsed a vast conspiracy that we’ll never see resolved. Is this guy a real caveman? He doesn’t seem to own his own clothes or shoes, and he doesn’t react to the cop – as though he’s unaware of the meaning of her outfit. Is the government or some secret organization operating a research facility disguised as a carnival? Is she a real cop under orders or on the take, or an agent in disguise?
It all raises so many questions. But at least we got a Gilligan cut out of it. I feel like Baldo is targeted generally toward the sort of person who appreciates those.
I think Caveman and Orange Hat look very much alike, facially at least.
He first appeared in an earlier comic where his resemblance to Cruz was more noticeable.
The guard knows that they didn’t walk in with the “cave man” because he’s a park employee.
Perhaps she’s keeping him from following Baldo & Co home, rather than keeping them from taking him home.
Is it, maybe, a reversal of “Goodbye, cruel world, I’m off to join the circus?”
Goodbye cruel carnival, I’m off to join the normies?
I dunno. I got nuttin’.
I got the impression that he’s senile or “diminished capacity,” which is itself a resemblance to Cruz.
Do traditional freak shows still exist at all, especially in Baldo’s suburb? Or is this just an old guy working as a character, caught without his Fred Flintstone mask? Maybe it IS Cruz’s uncle, a black sheep who ran away and ended up here.
