My early guess is Robert Peary, who for years was regarded as the first person to reach the North Pole. But more recent analysis suggests that he never made it: he was 30-60 miles away. Of course, by that time Peary was not around to defend himself.

If he asked for an almanac, I would have definitely guessed James Halliday from Ready Player One but that’s modern literature

I throw in Farley Mowat, even if he’s an author, as he’s also a character in one of his own books. An alternate guess, and more likely given Caulfield’s past costumes, is Ulrich von Gradwitz or Georg Znaeym from The Interlopers.

My first thought was Roald Amundsen, first one to make it to the south pole, but since it’s a figure from a classic, maybe someone from a Jack London novel? However, these travelers did write books about their adventures, like Fritjof Nansen (yes, my Norwegian is showing). OK, final try: Someone from “Around the World in 80 Days”.

I’m going to guess Ahab, because all the comic strips have been babbling about that book for the last few months.

I’ve been thinking something Jack London right from the beginning. Based on Wednesday’s strip, I think he might be going as the snowstorm from “To Build a Fire.”

I was wondering if it could possibly be the movie “The Gold Rush” by Charlie Chaplin, but that would require an old boot, a chicken suit, and a log cabin.
