Maybe some connection with Slender Man. But beyond that I’ve no idea.
Such a light is often used for comics about alien abductions. Maybe the aliens were trying to abduct the deer-man and its/his running in front of too the car bollixed up their plan? It’s not much, but it’s all I can come up with.
The “deer” is running like a human does… it ‘ran out’ in front of him… it’s not quite a deer, so it’s a thing… a thing running out in front of him? Is that it? It’s all I got.
Kind of looks like one of those forest spirits, maybe a Wendigo. But I don’t see the joke. It might be just as mythical as the creature.
The deer is in the pose of a “kids crossing” sign.
The Deer Crossing sign normally features a silhouette of a leaping deer. It’s like maybe the silhouette jumped off the sign in front of the car? I don’t get it either.
Deering Crossing?
Maybe Dr. Seuss made that comic.
Maybe “crossing” here means “combined with”? And the car hit the deer and the passenger combined with it, like “The Fly”?
They really should move the Deer Crossing signs to places that are safer for the deer to cross.

The whole thing is stupid. Deer can’t read.
