Dirk the Daring sends this in for our consideration: “I dunno, at first it was just “huh?”. But I think I get it now. Maybe.”

Michael Jackson (“MJ”) popularized the moonwalk dance move with videos for hits such as Billy Jean (That was 1983, not 1975 – but still)
The other names are the astronauts from Apollo 11. Of course, Michael Collins never walked on the Moon, he stayed in the command module in orbit.
This comic is from 2019, which was the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, though a couple months late. And well before Michael Jackson ever moonwalked.
@Powers…
Wait, what?
I actually got the joke just from the drawing, which is amazing for me. I also don’t understand what Powers is getting at.
Thanks to Lisah for the video. If you just want to see the moonwalk, go to minutes 3:35 or 4:30. He does it shortly after that.
Sorry I wasn’t clear. Lisah’s comment pointed out that Michael Jackson’s moonwalk was 1983, not 1975. She said 1975, I presume, because that’s 50 years before 2025.
Apollo 11 was not in 1975, either, so showing a 50th Anniversary for that would be weird in 2025 as well. But, as I pointed out, the comic panel was published in 2019, which was the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11.
And Apollo 11, in 1969, was even farther before 1983 than 1975 was.
This comic was published in 2019, which was fifty years after humans walked on the moon for the first time ever in the year 1969.
The host has thrown a party to celebrate this achievement, obvious from the “Apollo 11 goody bag” he’s giving out, as well as the names of the three astronauts that were part of the Apollo 11 mission.
The guest, however, seems to have confused the celebration of the “moon landing” for a celebration of the “moonwalk,” and so shows up dressed up as Michael Jackson.
The moonwalk was surely not invented in 1969, but that’s not part of the joke. The joke is simply that someone confused a party celebrating the Apollo 11 moon walk with the Michael Jackson moonwalk.
