No idea at all what’s going on. It reads like it’s written in code. Like these are two spies giving multiple passphrases.
I interpret this as the kids (incorrectly) believe that since their dad has a soft spot, he has a weakness they can exploit. I don’t know if I’m right, but it made me chuckle.
Yes, Paul has it: the kids are compiling a file on their parents like the CIA compiles a file on a person of interest. Finding a weakness that can be exploited is valuable information in that business.
