My first thought was, why would a snowman dream of a warm front? But then, I noticed its expression. It’s a nightmare!
He’s dreming of a warm front and having a nightmare over it, since warm fronts are not good for snowmen.
Is there a joke in the New Yorker cartoon beyond the fact that the snowmen appear to be caricatures of the father, with big noses and mustaches?
Joshua, thanks for that! On my phone I couldn’t see that level of detail, so it was a total CIDU for me. That at least might make it…something. Sorta proto-Calvin.

In the New Yorker cartoon, Father is shocked because the Father-like snowmen will eventually melt away. Is Junior wishing the sage fate for his father?
This seemed to be a more like a Charles Addams cartoon.
There was a Peanuts strip where Linus, after being bullied by Lucy, builds a snowgirl in her image. Approximate dialogue:
Lucy: “I bet you’re going to kick it down now.”
Linus: “On the contrary. I’m going to sit here and watch it slowly melt away.”
