This Nick & Zuzu comic is nearly a year old, but I still don’t understand it.

…
Why would an unmarried male be more likely to get a highly decorated drink? Is the bartender gay? Or female? Or was the overdecorated drink intended for the wife, who refused to take it?
He didn’t tell the bartender.
The implication is that the bartender is hitting on him.
The Carolyn Hax column that this cartoon originally accompanied is
https://www.washingtonpost.com/advice/2024/02/09/carolyn-hax-bartender-crush-husband/
For those who cannot read it at that link, the gist was : It is indeed one of the options considered (dismissed?) by the posting editor or the submitter — a female bartender has a big crush on the husband.
The cartoon departs slightly from the narrative in the column, as the bartender is described as knowing full well that the guy is married; and the task he needs to do is not simply convey that he is married (the bartender already knows that) but that he insists she stop the attentions.
Why is the wife in a Star Trek uniform?
Because the bartender is trying to make Whoopi.
Bravo! Downpuppy with the comment of the week! (Thanks Carl Fink for the setup!)
