P.S. For the purposes of this discussion, we will ignore the fact that the group appears to be playing a Three Club Challenge, so that asking for a particular iron would be pointless: each player is carrying exactly one wood, one iron, and a putter in his bag. Lucky Eddie has never had a reputation for brilliance.
Seven of his eight fingers, yes. And for a pond that narrow, it is amazingly deep.
Common trope in comedy is a puddle of impossible depth. Works for quicksand as well.
For example, there is the (completely unrealistic) “quicksand” near the beginning of “Blazing Saddles” (probably wood chips floating on a deep pool of water); but then there is the amazingly impressive “lightning” sand in the “fire swamp” scene in “The Princess Bride” (deep enough to swallow two people without a trace left on the surface).
