I was thinking “bendy”, but if it’s not that, shouldn’t it be “Krazy”?
“Crazy” is not a clinical term, plus it’s pejorative. So the patient might have led off with, “Doc, I feel like I’m a crazy straw.”
Thanks, everyone. I thought this one was going to be something cerebral, but then it turned out to be an exceedingly simple pejorative word for a person with psychological problems.
P.S. I once had an aunt (since deceased) who experienced “manic” phases every so often. As kids, we all knew that she was undergoing some sort of treatment, but nobody every really explained to us what was actually happening. Much later (as an adult), I was surprised to learn that she was fairly open about her current status, and she even used the adjective “crazy” to describe her own condition, although she never went into detail about what she meant by that.
I thought it was “screwed up”, but yeah “crazy” is better. I’ve still got my kids’ crazy straws in the junk drawer.
I don’t really remember the commercials for them, but I certainly remember owning the straws. I’m sure my mother didn’t enjoy cleaning them.
Nancy, which for the past few weeks has been drawn by various guest artists, today has a take on Crazy Straws:
jajizi – THANK YOU! I have been trying to figure out why Nancy has looked so different. I tried looking up what was going on, found nothing, and finally figured that there had been a change of artist and she would look odd compared to how she used to look from now on.
It just bothers my brain that she looks different.
@ Meryl (9) – The change(s) in Nancy are temporary, but you should expect them to last until the end of this summer. The current “official” author (who goes by the nom de plume of “Olivia Jaimes”) announced the sabattical in a short series of Nancy strips starting 19-June-2024. Several replacement artists have been lined up to fill in during the break; the Daily Cartoonist published an article with more information.
Thank you Kilby!
I had presumed that something to the artist and the strips were done by a replacement artist. I had tried looking it up online to no avail.
“Crazy”
Yup. It’s a reference to the classic https://www.krazystraws.com/
