Hagar meets some hooligans

The only joke I can fish out of this might be that we are supposed to know that the kids’ parents are sitting right there in the bar. But that might depend on us recognizing them as regular characters and knowing their families … a bit more than I can muster.

Or are the kids a crossover or tribute from another strip?? Wasn’t there a classic with “Hooligan” in the title? Oh, never mind.

I’m guessing by the wide eyed look of the red headed woman that she and the guy sitting to her left are the parents. Either way, I think the kids are about to be eviscerated by Hagar.

Don’t Hagar and all those other people go round smashing various towns up all the time? The kids are simply copying the destructive ways of their parents, but on a smaller scale.

None of the characters in this strip (except Hagar) is recurring, nor do any of them appear to be members of a crew of raiders.

I’m distracted by the hand cursor picking Hagar’s nose….

Sorry about that! Our discussion about a week ago did alert me to be more careful, but I didn’t go back and redo the ones that were already in the queue.

I’m not sure that the joke depends on the barflies being the parents of the yobbos, so much as they (including Hagar) are parents.
Turns out Vikings did have windows, but they were small, rare, & colored.

I think narmitaj has it. Hagar devotes his life to looting and pillaging in foreign lands, but he is not so approving of vandalizing his own country.

Not sure if the color is off or what – but I see a woman with orange hair and a woman with blonde hair (and men). Don’t see a woman with red hair- Hagar the only one with red hair that I see.

Meryl, I was also going to note that point about the description of the woman as having red hair, when it looks more like orange to me. But then, I think in general, in real life too the designation of “red hair” often goes with a color more towards orange — and this may hold whether the particular instance looks natural or not.

Something looks a little off as well as the not-quite landing gag. And Tuesday’s strip has Hagar sitting on a park bench with a guy in what looks like modern dress as a similarly modern girl passes. Are they experimenting or breaking in a new artist or something?

It’s a bit difficult to say what goes on at “Walker-Browne Amalgamated Humor Industries”. Chris “Big Daddy” Browne is still listed on the strip, although he’s been dead for a year. Wikipedia sez Gary Hallgren does the drawing for Hagar. I don’t know who is writing it.

Yeah, the boy looks reasonably in period, but the girl with him is way too anachronistic, for no apparent reason.
