I don’t think it means THAT kind of echo.
I believe this may be a reference to how some people use coffee as a coping mechanism. Abuse of other drugs might also be usable – “I need more whiskey/more marijuana”. Essentially the same joke as “Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.”
I think ianosmond has it – the Wiz is acting crazy (is he making little clicks with his mouth like some blind people do?) and his wife is having trouble coping.
Maybe she thought he said, “mochalocation.”
. . . No? Okay, but I am bothered that her cup of coffee is steaming hot. She doesn’t need more coffee! She has plenty of coffee for now!
There is more information in just four CIDU comments than in 89 pieces of drivel at GoComics.
Brian R – The Wiz isn’t precisely acting crazy; he is acting (literally) batty.
Kilby: We specialize in high quality drivel here!
Yes, she has a full cup but it is not going to be enough.
Kilby (5): That’s often true.
This is a stretch, but to me the wife’s eyes look like she’s just barely keeping them open, so that’s why she needs more coffee. Wiz can’t get his open at all, so he’s trying to find the coffeepot another way, whether to refill her mug or just get one for himself. That would need the drawing to be reversed and her speech to come first, though.
My thought knowing how I feel about some of Robert’s ideas –
She needs to drink more coffee for her brain to deal with his idea. The cup of coffee in front of her is either barely started and she needs more of it or she knows that one cup will be not be enough!
Plus she knows (as I do with Robert) whatever mess comes of what he is doing – she will be the one cleaning it up.
(Hey, we get along great – just we EACH get odd ideas which drive the other crazy. But a couple of weeks ago was the 50th anniversary of our first date – a midnight movie ( a couple of years before “Rocky Horror” came along) and we are still are going strong as we each enjoy? indulge? put up with? each other’s peculiarities – and from postings you must know I have a lot of them. – Oh, and we knew each other 2 years before we started dating. That’s a lot of Friday night midnight movies and Saturday date night movies also.
