Mutt figured out that Jeff was suggesting that Mutt’s long nose could be mistaken for a moose’s. Mutt showed he was not pleased with that observation.

Jeff is saying that it is a good thing that it is not Moose hunting season, since Mutt looks like a moose with his long nose and hat.
Moose season seems to have ended late November. Deer is just about over. Bear season is over as well.

BTW, This is a Mutt and Jeff strip. Mutts is a strip about dogs.

Even though Bill already fixed the tag, I’d like to say that “Mutts” is about dogs and cats. I think Mooch is featured a shade more than Earl, but I don’t have any statistics to prove that.

It bothers me that Pierre S. DeBeaumont not only puts his own name on the comic – which he got the rights to because his mom was married to Bud Fisher for a month – but he deletes the name of the actual artist, whether Fisher or Al Smith.

” I always will remember, ‘Twas a year ago November, I went out to hunt some deer On a mornin’ bright and clear. I went and shot the maximum the game laws would allow, Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow.” Tom Lehrer, “Th Hunting Song”

The law was very firm … it
    took away my perm…it –
… It turned out there was a reason,
    cows were out of season,
(and one of the hunters … wasn’t insured).
