Yes, it is a real thing. It’s fluffy and at a temperature such that pressure just barely makes it melt then freeze to whatever you are trying to slide across it, leading to, basically, exactly what happened in that comic.

I suppose the joke is “faceplants are funny”, maybe? Because stuff pretty close to that happened to me frequently as a kid. No injuries, because sticky snow is usually fairly soft.

so…. it’s funny because someone got hurt?

Or is it climate change is a hoax? Or is it without faith in Jesus life is pain? Or life *with* faith in Jesus life is pain but somehow that’s a good thing? I don’t know.

Surely you’ve seen one of those “funniest video” shows. Yes other people getting hurt is funny to some people, especially if it involves a hit to the groin.

I know that “ski wax” is a thing, so there must be some kind of snow that makes it necessary.

For cross-country skiing, the type of snow determines the type of wax. I know nuttin’ ’bout downhill skiing, except that’s it’s more expensive, more travel and more work.

Yeah, snow can get sticky, especially when you’re trying to shovel it and it just sticks to the shovel.

I thought the comic was moderately amusing. He expected to freely slide down the hill. The snow had other ideas.

I think you’re all overthinking and that the point was that it’s supposed to be an absurd excuse to cover his lack of technique, like blaming gravity fluctuations for falling off your bike. Not a great joke, but I chuckled.

While the strip had an overt Christian slant on occasions in the later years of Hart’s life, he hasn’t been at the helm for over ten years (what with being dead and all). I don’t think the current cartoonist team do much along those lines.

@ Brian – I think the “climate” reference indicates that woozy’s “faith” comments were also lampooning the kind of overthinking that sometimes occurs around here.

“…except that’s it’s more expensive, more travel and more work.”
I agree with the first two, but when I downhill ski, lifts do the work to get me up the hill and gravity does the work to bring me back down. I get much more exhausted skiing cross-country.

What I meant by ‘more work’ is the prep – the special boots, getting on the lift, etc. It’s like scuba diving and snorkeling . . . by the time Hubby is ready to go out for some dives, I’ve already snorkeled, seen most of the same things he’ll see, and gone back home for a nap.

Good thing we don’t all like the same thing ’cause some areas of the world would be packed, while others would be empty.
