Yes, what bothers me is that there is no masculine form of “donna.” Ruins the whole joke for me.
There has at times been discussion as to how the husband of a female President would be designated. I think broadcast journalists settled on “First Gentleman” , which I thought was okay but a little off. It isn’t helping us with the Italian, at any rate.
I don’t speak Italian but nevertheless venture to suggest that the masculine form of Donna is Don, as in Don Vito Corleone.
They should tell him, “You don’t have to be so pediatric.”

But “primo don” really doesn’t have the ring.
And if we are going to be sexist we might as well, be enlightened about it. We are complaining about an attribute attributed to women. But men can have it just as well. And when men have the attribute it is no different than when women have it. So I figure two options 1) call men “prima donna”s or 2) retire the phrase “prima donna” as sexist. Trying to figure we need two terms for different genders doesn’t seem valid.
Similarly traditionally “bitch” was perceived to be feminine (because … duh) and there was no masculine form. Or if there was it was “bastard”. Except “bitch” and “bastard” are not the same thing at all. I think it makes a lot more sense to call men and women “bitches” and “bastards” equally and I think many people do now. Of course, there is, unfortunately, a misogynistic tendency of some to consider calling a man a “bitch” is an extra insult because it implies they are women. That needs to go.
None the less “primo oumo” is the term being seeked.
