I had this queued for the LOL page until I saw the Reality Check comic below and decided to use it here instead.

I find myself annoyed by the bra and panties on the floor in the second comic. They don’t make any sense for a male horse or a unicorn, so it feels like the cartoonist thinks we’re only going to understand what’s going on if he hits us over the head with the joke. (Yeah, I know, this is the comic with the squirrel.)
I wonder if Dave Whamond deliberately makes the !@#$ Squirrel as annoying as possible just for the attention. The more people view his comic, the more money he makes. I’m sure the guy who does Funky Winkerbean is fine with the large numbers of people who hate-read his strip.
Those aren’t turtles; they’re tortoises. I’m feeling pedantic today ’cause a restaurant near me is called Tarpon Turtle, and all their paintings, figurines, logos, etc. are TORTOISES. Annoys me every time I drive by (so I try not to).
WW @1 hit the issue that bothered me most. There were plenty of better feminine “dress up” items that could have been used instead: curlers, ribbons, nail (hoof) polish, etc. Even a négligée or costume fairy wings would have worked better than that ludicrously incongruous bra.
Andrea, in the U.S., “turtle” does double duty. In addition to meaning those chelonians which are fully aquatic, it is also a proper term for any turtle, terrapin, or tortoise. The same does not hold in other countries with whom we share a “common language”.
OTOH,
I shared your meme with a friend who is a professor of herpetology . . . altho I’m sure he’s heard the joke already. Thanks for the laff . . . and the clarification.
Hehe…I didn’t even notice there was a squirrel this time.
Kilby – IME, *anything* specifically feminine is far too confusing of the issue…I think the drag issue is covered pretty well just with the unicorn suit.
@Kamino Neko – Interesting, because the traditional image of a unicorn is masculine. You know, because of their predilection for virgins.
And yes. I know that nowadays unicorns are considered ‘girly’, just because.
Probably the most unicorn in contemporary comics is Marigold Heavenlynostrils, from PHOEBE AND HER UNICORN, who is definitely female (although a number of other unicorns, of both sexes, also show up frequently in the strip).
Less well known, but rather more funny, is the unicorn on the cover of “Almost Everybody Farts“.

And this turtle moved pretty quickly once motivated:

Unintended consequences; always a bummer.

It’s the Teenage Mutant Ninja Tortoise’s fault.
