When Darth Vadar killed Obi-wan Kanobi his body disintegrated and his cloths collapsed. When Yoda died same thing. Maybe it happened with Luke but as that was an astral projection anyway who knows.
Apparently that is how Jedi die. They fade away leaving their clothes.
Dang, though. When Guy and Rodd aren’t doing puns they are *really* terrible. (But their puns are good and original.)
@ woozy – Make that past tense (“weren’t doing puns…”), this was published in 2007.
The timing is decidedly odd: nearly two years after Star Wars Episode 3 (and 24 years after Yoda vanished in Episode 6), but ten years before Luke evaporated in Episode 8.
Scraping the bottom of the barrel so hard all the funny has leaked out.
No, you guys have it all wrong. The joke is that comic strip characters are supposed to be funny, but this guy is making a lame joke like something a real person might come up with. So they’re subverting expectations, which is part of humor.
*sheepishly*
I would probably make this joke…
I chuckle. I suppose it all depends on how much you like Star Wars
I like Powers’ take on it. Very charitable. 🙂
Uh…spoilers?
Singapore Bill asked for spoilers, so here ya go:
Darth Vader is Luke’s father
Luke and Leia are twin siblings
Ben Kenobi dies
“Apparently that is how Jedi die. They fade away leaving their clothes.”
Except it isn’t. We saw lots and lots of Jedi die (Order 66) and none of them just faded away. At the end of ROTJ, we see exactly three blue Jedi… Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin. None of the rest of them were invited to the party.
“Singapore Bill asked for spoilers, so here ya go:
[…]
Ben Kenobi dies”
Well, no, he doesn’t, in the sense that “Ben Kenobi” doesn’t exist and never has.
Oh, oh, and Darth Vader (“Darth” to his friends) killed Anakin Skywalker
” The joke is that comic strip characters are supposed to be funny, but this guy is making a lame joke like something a real person might come up with.”
Actually that makes me more charitable. I imagine the cartoonist saw clothes laid out like that and thought “hey, it looks like a jedi just disintegrated out of them” and then thought “Hmmm, that’s kind of funny. I could make a cartoon out of that.”
Instead it looks like the guy is being sarcasticly nasty for no reason to his wife who was being helpful.
Does any wife lay out clothes for her husband in real life? I mean, really??
My stepmom did, whenever she wanted my dad to look really nice. And she had great taste.
Although I am not myself, I have known guys who were color blind. So a helpful wife would be handy to prevent fashion faux pas.
He has to ask? The former, of course. If it were the latter it would have been a hooded robe instead of a suit & tie.
I was about to ask if any Jedi ever wore that.
“Does any wife lay out clothes for her husband in real life? I mean, really??”
It’s not unheard of now and then. If the wife really has something specific for the husband to wear and is planning. But its not a regular thing (I hope.)
But anyone who makes a nasty snarky comment like that wouldn’t ever have it done twice. And would likely find the locks changed the next day.
My wife might lay out clothes for me when we need to dress up. But I am pretty sure it’s not as much out of kindness as she knows my sense of fashion and doesn’t want to be seen with me wearing something ridiculous.
As far as the comic, I’m one of the seemingly few who has no interest in anything Star Wars. So I will leave it at that.
It may be because they’re laid out as if a person was in them – even a tied tie. If I lay out clothes for myself (I don’t think I’ve ever done it for someone else), I sort of stack them – slacks, shirt, accessories off to the side. This does look like someone was in them.
Would it have been funnier if he asked if he’d missed the Rapture? Another “people disappear out of their clothes” thing…

I am sure that my SIL does for her husband.
