The only way to find out whether a watermelon works as a helmet is to jump off a roof wearing one.
Except… maybe there are, like, a dozen better ideas out there.
…and the dozen better ideas would include getting the watermelon helmet *off the top of my head*.
The guy in the white tee-shirt said “Are you sure a watermelon will be a good helmet” or something like that.
The guy with a watermelon on his head “There’s only one way to find out”.
The guy in the white tee-shirt said “That’s not true, man. I can think of, like, twelve other ways to find out, off the top of my head”.
Tony Carrillo thinks this sort of stuff is funny for some reason.
I wonder: how often does the cartoonist show us only the second line of a two-liner, making us infer the first?
MiB: It’s not uncommon. One I sent in as LOL wasn’t understood
by the first three people I showed it to (and by some on the
CIDU site). It shows a man on the phone with an elephant in the
background. The caption is, “Don’t be ridiculous! There’s just
one elephant up here.”
I think the humor can be more effective if you have to work out some of the details yourself (such as “how many elephants do you have running around up there” as a complaint about people with heavy footfalls in upstairs apartments.)
