Somebody must have really loved that Far Side clipping. It looks like it spent twenty years taped to the refrigerator in a very busy kitchen.

I was thinking that the B.C. one was a bit geezer-ish. I understand it but even I haven’t seen the movie all the way through.

I’ve never seen any of the movie at all. Looking it up provided a clear indication of was Mason had been trying to accomplish, but it didn’t really make it funny.

One good thing about the movie is that, just by being made and advertised, whether or not they attended it, millions of nerds who had read the name Betelgeuse but never heard it, suddenly learned how it is said.

I assume the movie referenced is “Beetle Juice”, but I’ve never seen it. Which comic is referencing it?

Okay, I get that part, but what does it have to do with the movie? Or should I just shut up and go watch the movie?

AFAICT, that whole “location, location, location” thing is a lot older than the movie isn’t it? I heard it as a child.

Sorry, Chak, I missed what you were asking.

Well, I haven’t seen it in a long time, and didn’t pay very close attention anyway. But there was something about invoking or pulling the demon with that name, by saying that name three times. And it wouldn’t have to be deliberate repetition, you could do it inadvertently if you happened to be mentioning him for some reason. (Or perhaps the star Betelgeuse would count too :)

Oh, okay, I get it. The repetition of ‘location’ wasn’t in the movie, it was just three times of any name.

Actually, now it’s a LOL for me, too. Thanks!

On the other hand, there is no good way to pronounce “Uranus” – especially in front of a junior high science class.

@Mary McNeil “Yuran-Us” kind of works. Problem is, people *know* what you are trying to do with that pronunciation.

chuckers – what you’re advocating would be heard as “urine us”.

    larK – what about “oo-RAHN-oos”?

    “‘Yuran-Us’ kind of works.”

Except you’re now talking about urine, which isn’t much of an improvement.
