True New York Stories [not entirely OT]
When I was in Manhattan a few days ago, a tourist from the Midwest said to me “I’d heard these were enormous, but I didn’t believe it until I saw one for myself.”
What was he referring to?
I don’t think that word means what he thinks it means

The irony is, Mr. Deering made sure he knew how “pyrrhic” was spelled…
And of course the joke would have been fine with just “Poetic Justice” on the sign.
B. A. : “A bit less funny now that they gave him Alzheimer’s”

“It’s all fun and games until somebody is diagnosed with a tragic neurological disorder.”
He still has to get up early, doesn’t he?

Not so different from when my wife has to get up early for a teleconference.
Personally, I’d want to check out the other days on her calendar…

Car Courage

Baldo is so terrified by the thought of restoring this car that he’s beginning to turn into an anime character?
Glasses

- I’m sure I’ve mentioned in the past how much I detest the “Fibs your parents told you as a child” concept.
- What part of this is supposed to be funny?
- Why is this something parents would lie to a child about anyway? If she doesn’t want to wear glasses, will the promise of not having to wear them twenty years in the future make a bit of difference?
- That said, I wore glasses every waking moment from my pre-teens, and then suddenly stopped needing them when I was 44.
Funny story there: I thought my eyesight was really getting bad, because I was having a lot of trouble focusing. One day I was with a friend and I was trying to read a map, and I just couldn’t. She said “Try taking off your glasses.” And… problem solved: I didn’t need the glasses, not for close-up or for distance, and wearing them was the thing screwing me up. Who knew?
Like leaving a sponge or a surgical instrument in the body except… it’s a Post-It Note??

And while two comics on the same day dealing with trials doesn’t qualify as synchronicity, two comics I don’t understand on the same day dealing with trials does.

Easy enough to tell what’s literally happening in both comics, I guess, but what are the jokes?
Just in case anybody’s wondering…
Yes, the Moderation Filter has gone insane this week.
