The waiter had probably just told him the daily special, the daily drink special, this evening’s dessert, and the soup of the day. And then he keeps going. Next he’ll give the daily forecast.

I don’t think the chairs are important.

It’s just so uncanny-valleyish. The chairs are not quite right. There’s a glass but no place setting. He’s dining alone, in a tie. The waiter’s cummerbund is long enough to be an apron.

Powers 3. Many upmarket restaurants, at least in Europe, don’t put cutlery on the table until the guest has ordered. Such a restaurant may not admit gentlemen without a tie, although I would expect him to have to wear a jacket as well. The waiter’s cummerbund is an apron, not a cummerbund. Aprons worn at waist height or higher and in a darker colour are common. And an upmarket restaurant may well have carver chairs with arms for all.

TedD: If that’s an Animal House quote, it should be “…rolling” :)
(from someone who has WAYYYY too many lines from that movie stuck in his head–I probably use “…could take years and cost millions of lives” at least once a week at work!)

There is a problem in the Kitchen between the staff. A kerfuffle so your meal may be delayed.

But that is probably too much thinking on my part.

When was this sent in (I don’t see a date on the comic)?

I just noticed that on my Miriam-Webster calendar, “kerfuffle” is the word-of-the-day for December 2nd.

Found it. It’s from November 28th. So did he find a future date in the calendar for this comic, or is it a complete coincidence….?

The picture Darren provided is of a desk calendar, so if Vaughan knew which date his submission would be published, he could have just looked ahead.

Yes, that’s what I meant by looking ahead. And while lead times might be uncertain, I would still think they’d expect a Tuesday comic to appear on a Tuesday. So having it be from a nearby but not the exact day is making me wonder if that was the source.

Left chair has only 2 legs as seen. Right chair has 2 legs seen as well and the small leg piece showing under the table cloth is a third leg to the right side chair.

The remaining chair legs and the four table legs are hidden under the especially long table cloth.

I was so caught up in reading on the site that I just realized that I have had a movie on the TV next to me (for the past half hour at least) which is in French – without subtitles and my French is extremely limited.

(While in Montreal some decades ago the movie on TV was “Le Frère le plus fûté de Sherlock Holmes” as it was in French and we watched it just to the see the movie as had not previously done so. – Just in case – “The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother”.)
