Usual John sends this in: “CIDU has once again been called out by the Daily Cartoonist, https://www.dailycartoonist.com/index.php/2025/11/16/tiptoe-thru-the-comics/, although this does not seem like a particularly difficult comic to understand.”

This one is actually from 2014. Perhaps funnier then.

Hey, I resemble that remark! Home-made jerky is easy and great. Well, easy IF you have a store that sells braciole beef, or you have a professional slicer (I have the former, not the latter).
I guess my perception is colored by that, though–I find this a CIDU.
The best I got – and this is a bit of a stretch – is that the conversation is about how they got wealthy. It’s a pretty swank-looking party. Alice just expanded her clinic, Bob got in early with Apple, Charlie came from money, and Dana saved so much money making his own jerky that he’s rich now.
Ain’t got a clue. Obviously a very swank party but without any other context it just comes across as “Deadline in two minutes? Damn!”
Is the thing in the upper right supposed to be a light, or a word balloon?
I mostly agree with Andrew Millar. I differ in thinking the conversation is about what is most impressive, not how they got rich. Alice expanded her clinic, etc. Some ski Everest, others cross the ocean in a kayak, Dana makes jerky.
My mind went to euphemism. “Jerking away, wink wink nudge nudge? Pulled pork? His own meat, knowwhatImean, eh, eh? … “
Speaking of euphemism, on a recent episode of one of those British (or Commonwealth?) police tv series I watch, a witness told the interviewing detective something like “And then I stepped away to the woods, for a meeting with the Board of Directors. Erm, that’s a euphemism for –” and cut short by the detective saying “Thanks, I do know what it’s a euphemism for.”
It’s fairly clear from context, but was not familiar. I tried a quick web search, and found only other people also prompted to look by this TV instance!
@Mitch4: Surely NCIS is not the show you’re referring to (I was guessing Broken Wood, it sounds like Frodo), but that was the only thing that turned up in my search of your search…
Hmm, yes, I guess it was NCIS. But I also in memory had turned it into Brokenwood and Frodo! (Hence my “commonwealth” remark.)
I remember an old episode of My Word, the British word game radio show, where someone said something and someone else, I think Denis Norden, said “Is that a euphemism for pointing Percy at the petunias?”
I ran this by ChatGPT for laughs, and what it came up with reveals a bit more about the perspective of AI than I think it meant to let on. Beware, everyone. Beware.
“On first reading, this sounds normal — lots of people make homemade jerky. But then you notice:
The jerky looks like… chunks of human flesh
Dana is standing there, smiling, as though this is perfectly ordinary
Everyone is far too casual about it
And the empty speech balloon above one guest suggests someone tried to say something, but couldn’t — perhaps shocked, speechless, or simply at a loss for words.
The joke is essentially: Dana is serving homemade human jerky at a party, and everyone is treating it like nothing unusual.”
