Boise Ed sends this in: “Some commenters feel that the little rectangular solid is supposed to represent a hay bale. From panel 2, I infer that its name is “going.” At this point, I’m totally lost.”

Looks like a dad joke but really a fodder joke.
It’s name is “hay,” which is pronounced the same as “hey.”
*Its. Stupid autocorrect changing a perfectly good word into the wrong one.
+1 for Andrew’s answer!
definite +1 for Andrew… for what it’s worth, doesn’t help raise the humour level from baseline WTF :)
+1 more for Andrew’s follow-up!
What, no love for bensondonald? His was an excellent joke.
It ‘s a bale of hay.
The (horribly drawn) character says ‘Hey, how’s it going?’
How does one ‘infer that its name is ‘Going’?

Brian (8): In P3, the thing asks how she knew its name, after she asks “How’s it, going?” (but without the comma). I suppose she could have been using “Hey” as its name, as Andrew Millar (2) suggested.

Hear, hear!!
Ed: ‘How’s it going’? is a common greeting.
‘How’s it?’, perhaps in the UK.
Since there was no comma in the strip dialogue, I’m not sure why anyone would assume a comma would be there.

And yet at least two of us did (I garden-pathed that way first, ‘Howzit Joanna Going?’ before reversing and realizing it was punning on “hey”). Accept it, get over it. It’s not right, it’s not wrong, just different.
