It’s their whistle. Lifeguards tend to spin them to pass the time.
And the gal on the far right has failed to do so, tangling hers up instead.
So…the training is to teach them how to spin their whistles? Oy, that’s thin.
Is this actually a thing? Has anyone here seen lifeguards do this on a regular basis, like enough so that it’s a professional stereotype? To be fair to lifeguards, the ones I’ve seen keep their eyes on the water, not on their whistles.
