BillR sends this without comment:

I sure hope someone has a clue, because I got nothin’.
As a bonus, he included this semi-synchronicity (“semi” because it’s apparently a repost), which I quite like. We’re not really doing synchronicity these days, but while I’m at it:

Generally you don’t want to use a pen with crossword puzzles, as you might have to do some erasing.
Jellyfish don’t have brains.
I’m only seeing one picture, the one with the crossword and shoulder angel/devil. P’m thinking that’s the synchronicity, not the CIDU, right?
I think it would be funnier if the devil were advocating using pencil. The implication being that the writing an answer you can erase is somehow cheating.
Oh, are there supposed to be two pictures? Huh. I just tried it in three different browsers, and I’m only seeing the crossword puzzle one.
Regarding the second, perhaps the devil is wants the man to succumb to pride.
I have 2 anecdotes about crossword puzzles. My father-in-law not only did the NY Times crossword in pen, he also timed himself.
Also, I remember reading the Spycatcher, the memoir of someone who worked for MI-6 who mentioned a co-worker who did the London Times (I think) crossword in his head without filling it out. The author didn’t believe him so the guy the guy filled it out row by row.
The second picture displayed fine for me in Firefox, Chrome, and Edge, but it WAS a .webp so I replaced it with a .jpg version. Folks who couldn’t see it, let me know if you can see it now?
I agree, the second one is just the devil saying “Take a risk”. The first is still 100% a CIDU for me; Patrick said “Jellyfish don’t have brains” but that doesn’t get me anywhere?!
No, brain, no point in doing a crossword puzzle. So yes, it is a waste of time and they are off to find better things to do.
I’m thinking of a woman I’ve seen at the gym. Doing the NYT crossword in ink — while going decently hard on an elliptical. She doesn’t seem to scratch out much, either.
TedD: Ahhhh, Bach…I guess that makes sense, thanks!
Jellyfish do not have brains. Thanks to SpongeBob SquarePants that has become common knowledge to an entire generation.
Most elliptical users I’ve seen use the handles to get the arms working too. I have been back using the treadmill at the Fancy New Apartments because it’s been too fracking hot or rainy to walk outside.
True self-confidence is doing crossword puzzles with a pen.
But you can also do crossword puzzles the way Mozart composed music. Work it all out in your head and then just write it all down with a pen.
@Patrick (2): I’m biting my tongue to avoid political comments.
@Rob W (5): That reminds me of long ago when I tried mental chess with a friend. He always won, but it was a good exercise.
@TedD (7): That’s probably it. His nonexistent brain realized that brain exercise was fruitless.
