Agree about the throwaway, That is clever. I confess I had to think about it for several seconds, but in my defense it’s still pretty early here.

regal name or legal name? I read it the first way at first, and thought it was something about some guy named Gene being grandiose. Only then, after reading the backwards words on the door, and processing the joke, did I realize “legal” would make much more sense for a genie.

larK: Your email seems to be broken. I took the liberty of changing “of” to “or” (the third word in your comment #2) because I’m 99.44% sure that’s what you intended. Sent you email to that effect and it bounced, “Mailbox unavailable”.

Sorry all for the intrusion but I see no other way to let him know!

As far as I know, genies are immortal. The stories usually end with them being trapped in a lamp or bottle forever by some genie-proof seal — unless another human comes along to break the seal and let the genie out again.

I don’t think there’s a legal precedent for a missing genie to be “presumed dead”. More likely to be presumed trapped somewhere permanently. But I suppose there’s some sort of legal equivalent of a will, e.g. “If I go missing and am not found for 40 years, here is how I direct you to dispose of my stuff.”

@phsiii: yeah, I seem to have lost control of that account a year or two ago (it didn’t have a strong password, but it wasn’t particularly important, so there you go — use strong passwords!) I still use it here on cidu, if for nothing else then for gravitar consistency. The other editors (mitch and Kilby, for sure) have my real email address.

Oh, and thanks for the correction! :-)
