Do we need an anti-geezer alert for this one? I would never have understood this joke a few years ago. Actually, depending on your state, it might be a CIDU still.

I don’t know if I’m a geezer relative to this cartoon, nor do I know if I’m in the wrong state. But I don’t get it.
Nor I. Haven’t a clue
Cannabis or sativa gummies are legal in some states.
Obligatory “depending on your state”.. How about the state of confusion?
She’s literally “high”.
It took me a few seconds to figure out that she wasn’t holding up the ceiling.
It still begs the question of why did she eat only half of the gummy. They are so small that it is only natural to put the whole thing in your mouth at once.
My first thought was that a mouse might eat half of a gummy, and she is in the proper “scared by a mouse” pose.
But I like lolainpa’s take better.
The easiest way to “translate” this comic for geezers would be to replace “gummy bear” with “brownie” (the THC delivery method of choice back then).
Unca $crooge, most websites will recommend taking only half if it’s your first time.
There have been a number of YouTube ads for “Mood Gummies” featuring a Millennial couple. One rather racy one went like:
She (coming out the bathroom): “I just took a Mood Arouse.”
He: “I just took a Mood Sleep!”
She: “Oh no! How fast does it work?”
He: ZZZZZZ
She: Welp, I guess I’ll take care of this myself. (heads back into the bathroom)
I ate a whole THC gummy once a got a horrible panic attack, so I can understand just eating half.
NYS relatively recently made some forms (including edible) forms of cannabis legal. There is currently still a period of getting it all sorted out for it to be sold with some jurisdictions working much quicker than others. On Long Island each township/city has decided for itself. It is not legal to sell in our township, but we can buy it where it is legal and bring it back here.
As two people who went through the 1960s being good and never tried any “pot” (though probably had contact highs from others at parties, the Mini Cinema*, and such) we immediately started debating whether or not. Still waiting for it all to be sorted out and still not sure what version we would try – or not try at all – plus the costs seem a bit steep for our pockets.
*The Mini Cinema was a local art house theater. They had midnight movies on Friday nights – our first date was at one of same. This was the local theater which ran “The Rocky Horror Show” Also “Pelvis” and other movies many of which were probably much better for those providing the pot odor in the air than for us – but also a lot of really good art films as well as regular movies. The building is now a church for a Protestant sect – we pass it often as it is near where we live.
Okay, well, I was dimly aware of cannabis gummies, and I live in a state where they’re technically legal, but I didn’t associate what seems to be a hallucinatory state with cannabis.
Powers, the oral consumables are (reportedly) much more prone to produce more intense effects.
Huh, seems kind of obscure for a mass market.
@ Powers (17) – The overwrought (and politically charged) discussion in the press about legalization has reached many more readers than the microscopic percentage of people that has actually tried the stuff.
P.S. The current German coalition government is working on plans to legalize at least some forms (and amounts) of cannabis, but so far has been stymied by overriding European regulations that forbid it.
So if it’s European regulations, how the heck do the Netherlands get around them? And Portugal?
Gummi Bears! Bouncing here and there and everywhere!
Meryl A,
I did the same, not participating while it was illegal. Recently I tried it for knee pain. It did not help the pain, but it did make me dizzy enough to upset my tum, and while my mind was clear, my mouth stopped working so I couldn’t speak well.
We won’t be fooled again.
And isn’t it sad when a nice neighborhood independent cinema goes down do far in the world.
so far not do far sheesh
Chak – The fact that the place was “scented” with pot – well, it was not the nice neighborhood cinema. It catered to the college crowd with offbeat movies -especially their Friday night midnight movie (first time we went there was for same after work). I am guessing that as the college crowds changed to more yuppy they lost too much business.
I figure – at least the building is still there. I have suggested to husband that we go once to services there to see what they have done with the inside – not something he would do.
Fairly early during Covid Robert brought back the Friday midnight movie. Every Friday night after I finish the dishes (we eat late and also I hand wash the dishes, etc and read the newspaper afterwards) we go into the living room just before midnight and watch a Midnight movie of the type of movie which was shown then. First one was, of course, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. A number of Marx Brothers movies followed over the following weeks. The night after Thanksgiving was, of course, “Alice’s Restaurant” - I had expected a repeat of same this Thanksgiving, but it had not entered his mind to watch it again. he comes up something every week between our large collection of movies on DVDs – has not run anything on Beta or VHS, but has pulled some in from online. This past Friday we watched “Topsy Turvy”.
I like “Friday Night Midnight Movie on TV” much better than “Saturday Night Date Night Movie on TV” which generally runs much newer movies, followed by shorts from various RV sites – trips people have taken in their RVs, how to maintain them, etc. I allow him 3 of these short films maximum, then leave for the bathroom and do not return – it is generally around 2 or 3 am when I leave.

For those not understanding, she’s had half a cannabis gummy. https://chatelaine.com/living/weed-gummies-beginners-faq/
