In the 1945 film Murder, He Says, Fred MacMurray works for the Trotter Poll – “like the Gallup Poll, but not as fast.”
The headline says “OYs“, so here’s some more to make it plural:
I discovered a very interesting piece of information (and a lot of great cartoons) on Will Santino’s website: “I began submitting cartoons to the New Yorker in 2017. 400 cartoons later, I sold my first cartoon to the New Yorker in March, 2020. I currently submit 8 cartoons every week…”
P.S. This explains why each of the three Santino cartoons that have appeared at CIDU so far look so much like New Yorker material, even though none of them are listed at the Conde Nast store.
P.S. @3 – Perhaps the reason that the New Yorker declined Santino’s Gallop Poll comic is that the gag isn’t exactly new:
Here is a note from Santino.
I started doing standup and comedy this year and I really really enjoy it. Try something totally new at age 34, its worth it. Grateful for all the cool people in the scene in Madison who I have no choice but to hang out with five nights a week. For real though. Best part about comedy so far is the coworkers. They are good people and also godless degenerates. I’ve been writing jokes in the form of cartoons since 2017, I’m really glad I no longer have to write jokes in a vacuum. 🫡🤘🏻🫡🤘🏻🫡🤘🏻 here’s to more silliness and standup in 2024
