I think the humans are in the lower left of the panel. Maybe this is a visitation by alien beans?

They don’t appear to be humans, but some kind of bird with bills. Maybe the beans are there to cross breed?

I think those are supposed to be coffee beans. Early in both the sense of ancient and the sense of morning, with alien or godly coffee beans awakening mankind.

I figured it was “unwritten” because the beans squashed them so there was no one left to write about it. See how the shadow is on the people? (At least, that’s what the shadow means in video games.)

There is a lot about early humans we don’t know, but we can piece together some ideas through evidence. We are rarely surprised by what we find, and even when we are (“Oooh, this proves they had fire 500 years earlier than we thought!”) it’s all within the realm of possibility… activities humans are capable of.

However, if some very strange things took place in those ancient times that did not leave any evidence, those events have been lost as writing hadn’t been conceived of yet. I think the “joke” is that the past may be much, much stranger than we believe.

(Although the shapes are reminiscent of beans or kidneys, that may be a red herring.)

There’s always the Aquatic Ape Theory! There was a pseudo-documentary that used that to suggest that mermaids are real and a separate lineage from the AA ancestors.

To tell you where MY mind goes – I first thought of beans – then I thought “large drops of chocolate – yum”. :-)
