Thanks very much! It’s not my favorite kind of music, but I’ll take anything that will replace the “ear worm” that yesterday’s post left me with.
Kilby, are you saying you’d walk 500 miles and you would walk 500 more to get away from I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)?
Not a lot of people know this, but she’s the love child of Harry Chapin and Karen Carpenter.
Sounds interesting, but naw…Wikipedia:l Carpenter was born in Princeton, New Jersey, to Chapin Carpenter Jr., a Life Magazine executive, and Mary Bowie Robertson.
and another wiki site: and she is a fifth cousin of the late singer and humanitarian Harry Chapin (along with his brothers Tom and Steve).
TC born 1945
KC born 1950
MCC born 1958
SB probably has corrected reality by now.
Today I listened to a recorded live performance by Blues/Rock artist Samantha Fish:
You’ll never outdo the marvelous earworm you gave me with the Candide Overture.
How do ever expect to get a rumour started if you’re going to look things up?
@ SBill – The Doctor Who version of “500 miles” completely restored my opinion of the song (thanks to Downpuppy for posting it in the comments). Not only as the synchronization much better, it was funnier and it was not marred by clips taken from a hideous horror flick. However, the most impressive crowning jewel was that The Proclaimers made a cameo appearance (with their “biggest fan”) at the 2:45 minute mark.
P.S. Thanks also to Arthur for posting Tom Smith’s “500 Hats”, which was good all the way to to the last line.
Kilby, I agree. For us Whovians that was absolutely glorious. I enjoyed the other just fine, but the Doctor Who one is people actually celebrating song and seeing the Bros. Reid was magic.
As for Tom Smith, I’m happy for the intro there too. He’s a decent filk singer, something I’d pretty much forgotten existed.
