The two dudes we can see at least look surprised… The woman just looks bored…. like “you faked your death AGAIN?”

Or maybe while you can’t take your possessions with you, you can take your Twitter account?
(Though I think faking his death to check on her is the real answer.)

There is a lot of talk in the last few years about different kinds of provision for digital legacy and management of accounts of deceased users.

I have several friends and relations on Facebook who have passed. It’s weird. Sometimes people post messages to them like “We miss you” or tag them in photos, but sometimes the messages make you wonder if that poster knows that the person they are posting to is gone.
I don’t really know what the solution is. It’s not really Facebook’s responsibility to update that user’s status. I don’t think they disable inactive accounts either. I think the best thing would be for a friend or family member to take over the account and close it if they want to. Of course, they would need that person’s password in order to get access.

This is a great opportunity for Facebook to increase user engagement — if you don’t log in to your account after a certain number of days, your status will automatically be changed to “(presumed) deceased”.

Isn’t there a play by Moliere or someone where a rich man fakes his death in order to expose the greediness of his heirs?
And maybe a Twilight Zone episode too.

Facebook actually has a thing where you can turn a person’s page into a memorial page, but there are probably some rules they use to make sure you have the right to the deceased person’s page, which (I assume) many spouses and relatives don’t meet.

She thinks she’s rich. But now he’s off for Australia, leaving her with nothing except a slightly used casket. Which she will have to sell at a garage sale to make ends meet.
