    This strip could have worked if it had been given to someone with more artistic talent. The intent was that the jaw was supposed to be massive and powerful (to impress testosterone-laden males), whereas the tail was supposed to be an ostentatious rainbow display (to turn females green with envy). Mason failed at both ends, and was just barely able to convey what the strip could have been.

    Maybe the rainbow tail intimidates women because the fish is gay and therefore more sassy and stylish?

    I suppose this could work if the fish is female. She wants to scare off both predators and rivals.

    But in most fish, the fancy colors are on the male, who’d want to impress women, not intimidate them.

    He’s not intimidating women into being with him, he’s intimidating women into not even talking to him. It’s not impressive.
