The skeleton one took what was rapidly becoming a poignant and sad yet touching cartoon about to overwhelm the emotions of a dead loved one coming back, and managed to throw that all away for a cheap pun.

..OK, a pretty good pun, but still, that cartoon was building to be so, so much more…

what the heck is wrong with puns? There is nothing shameful in them. And that one was *excellent* and very humorously executed.

And I didn’t see anything about emotion of a loved one returning. It’s a creepy and scary skeleton and kind of gross if one kisses you, so when it turns to a creature expressing emotions sweetly made it *surpass* the expectations turn out to be so much *more* than one would expect.

Xes and Os (often written as “XOXO” and pronounced as “ecks-oh ecks-oh”) is internet and letter writing shorthand for “kisses” and “hugs” (Odd you enough we *say* “hugs and kisses” with hugs first but we *write* “XXOO” or “XOXO” with kisses first).

So this kissing and hugging skeleton is an “XO Skeleton” (or “Ecks-oh Skeleton”)

woozy: let’s tell a romantic story — it could be Love Story — a young couple, fall passionately in love, the world loves them, they love the world, they are the world; tragically, one of them dies, too soon, too young! The other is left having known the love of his life, but now without her. It is a bitter sweet life he has to live, having known perfect love, but having it taken away from him so soon.

Now, lying in the grave, dead, but not quite, remembering the great love she had, by pure force of will, the remains of the dead loved one reassembles herself, animating her bones somehow to walk despite not having the linking tendons or motivating musculature. She seeks out her beloved. She finds him! She rushes straight into his arms! Only he is horrified and sees only a grim skeleton bearing down on him! Nevertheless, she takes him in her arms and kisses him. He begins to realize that this is the remains of his beloved! She gratefully embraces him, and he stands there looking dumbfounded. The Pathos! She has returned to him, but she is just a pile of bones! He loves her, but how can he love a pile of bones? What will become of their love? You say love conquers all, but does it? Really? What great punch line are we in for that will encapsulate all this Pathos and bitter sweet irony?

    …Oh. It’s a pun.

    But…. It’s a !!!PUN!!!

I was expected some resolution but I got A PUN!!!! at *NO* extra cost!!

Sheesh, the way you talk it’s as though someone might find a pun disappointing.

There was just a joke in “Kevin & Kell” about insects hanging out a skeleton on Halloween. Somehow it just does not work if you are an exoskeletonous species.

I remember CIDUers had a discussion about this last year . . . right around this same time, in fact. What a coincidence!

Skeletons of snakes are also available, albeit oxymoronic.

My father used to say “There are two types of puns in the world: the great ones, and the ones that the listener doesn’t appreciate” There’s never a bad pun
