It may be a reference to “You complete me,” which immediately precedes “You had me at hello.” “Complete” can have a different meaning to someone put together out of parts. Of course, it’s Dr. Frankenstein who completed her, so the doctor should tell her “You had me at hello.” That would make too much sense, though.

It works if you don’t like the movie: regular creatures are ok but creatures who impersonate Zwelleger & Cruise in Jerry Maguire: ugh!

Maybe the โ€œscaryโ€ line is facetious. An exchange so wholesome isnโ€™t scary. Or something. ๐Ÿ˜

I wonder if maybe the cartoonist was smarter than we are giving credit for. I’ve never seen Jerry Maguire so I don’t really know what the line is supposed to mean or whether the “you complete me” was supposed to be insipidly sincere or cynically manipulative…. But maybe there’s a clever parallel to the movie “The Bride of Frankenstein” which is a darker more intelligent movie then modern generations who haven’t seen it would think. In the movie the Bride rejected the monster and the whole thing was a sad and tragic examination of love and caring can make one more human and ultimately it was a failure.

Is there any parallel to the themes in Jerry Maguire?

Or am I just hoping too much and this is just a “Ha, ha. Jerry Maguire is a movie reference” which too often the cartoonists think is enough.
