(It usually is Frazz’s final line; I suspect there’s a clause in his contract saying he has to have the final word even if the strip works fine — or better — without it)

Frazz is agreeing with the kid that a leaf pile isn’t soft to land in (they have to be really big for that, small leaf piles are just covering the ground, which tends towards not-softness) but adding that whoever said the leaf pile was soft can’t be trusted on that subject, or even on the subject of whether or not they said it was.
Frazz is in charge of raking the leaves, so he doesn’t want kids jumping in his leaf piles, because jumping in leaf piles is an effective way to need to rake again.
He’s stretching out to relieve the pain, sore, and stiffness after landing hard on the leaf pile….which someone told him would be soft as a pillow. Listening to someone with advice like that usually ends up bad, and then they deny they told you to do it. Frazz is just confirming it.
Yeah, but the kid saying it allows for a small degree of observational humor. Frazz insisting unnecessarily and detrimentally on getting the last word just seems like an insecure narcissist who just can’t let *anyone* else make an observation.
He should’ve read this first . . .

I must be mistaken. I saw your name at the top of the comments list. Good to know it’s not modelled on you, because always having to get the last word is an unattractive trait. That Frazz is very annoying.

Look up at the top. Whose name is in the title?

It says “James Pollock”.
