You would expect the first complaint to be “you expect me to eat this?”, but the actual complaint is about posting it online, because some people have the habit of posting pictures of what they eat online, which is a weird behavior, and pointing out weird behaviors is funny.
All that JP said is perfectly correct, but in this case the woman’s objection to posting a picture of something “unsavory” falls completely flat, because everything (and everyone) in “Close to Home” is ugly and objectionable.
P.S. For special events (like birthdays), my in-laws and a number of other relatives and friends here in Germany have the odious habit of photographing the complete table before the meal may commence. Luckily, none of them is so insane as to post any of this stuff online, but it is nevertheless an unwelcome ordeal (similar to a pious ancestor who spends several minutes on an elaborate “grace” ritual: “Don’t eat anything yet, I want to get one more shot from the other end!“)
Good God! What is wrong with the waitress’s head?
@ LF – Two things:
1) She thought shaving the side of her head would be a “cool” modern hairstyle.
2) She made the mistake of appearing in a comic whose author cannot draw.
Less dramatic than the half shaved head, another problem behavior is the other diner, who has the greens dripping back out of his mouth.
And there may be some generational animus going on. It’s “those kids” who IG their meals, who adopt strange assertive hairstyles, and run / patronize places named Cactus Flower.
The ‘art’ looks like a pen is always dripping and s/he never cleans up the comic before submitting it.
@ Andréa – His (or her) name is “John” (the byline is one of the few things in this feature that one can look at without risking eye pain).
‘Eye pain’ is a great description . . .
I think the greens-stuck-in-teeth and the radical hairstyle are playing into the joke here. Would you take a selfie with those two? Girl looks relatively normal here. Her tone seems a bit strong though. I’d think a more normal response might read like “You’re kidding, right?”
The server is apparently either transsexual or intersex. Or John drew her profile so poorly that some other line came out looking like a mustache.
I think she’s supposed to be punk, but I’m not sure. I see a lot of weird haircuts involving shaving and dye of various hues. I can’t tell whether those are the punk haircuts or the trendy ones.
