Somehow it devolved into a discussion of flags and never resolved what was going on here.
Pardon my planet has a weird way of taking a common phrase, putting it out of context and into a place that *ought* to be funny and/or ironic but isn’t then somehow veering off orthogonally into something that just doesn’t fit and make no sense.
So here’s a line from the Folsom prison blues, a heartless killer would … ha! make a good lawyer! so… well, let’s throw in something about prison career training and well, it’s weird to have a prison career training for a prestigious high education job like a doctor and lawyer, wouldn’t it, as prison training is often beauracratically stymied or politically or commercially exploitive thats just more extraneous concepts to think about. Result: A perfect pardon my planet cartoon.
The way the policeman is holding the prisoner makes me think said prisoner is not an actual human being, but some kind of realistic manikin and everyone’s play-acting. Why would they do this? Dunno, but makes as much sense as anything in Pardon My Planet.
IDU ‘RENO’ . . . ? RENO, NV? RENOvation?
@ Andrea – I don’t know why, but I thought it was a reference to Janet Reno.
P.S. Actually, given that this is a rerun, simply changing the “N” to a “D” would produce “Redo” as a very appropriate title.
GOOD ONE!
Andréa, the line from Folsom Prison Blues is, “But I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die”.
Makes sense . . . now. I should think shooting him in the heart or head would’ve worked better, tho.
“We need clinical, non-empathetic people like you—in the Legal Professions.”
Considering the number of convicted felons who study law to get appeals ready to try to overturn their convictions, because their Overworked and Underfunded Public Defenders missed something…
Maybe it’s not that much of a stretch.
This one is a repeat from January:
