Yep, that’s how I read it.
A few years back they’d periodically have Baldo buying some individual part for his future rod, with the joke he’d end up building his car entirely from pieces.
My guess is that the seller was measuring time in “girfriend units” instead of years! Kind of like measure the trip to downtown not in miles but minutes b/c that is more relevant.
I thought potential girlfriends. As in, first date, she sees his car, no first date.
