I agree completely. He misinterpreted the boss’ instructions which has led to a comical demise.

@ carlfink – Bill sometimes forgets to click in the CIDU tag – it might not have been there before, but it’s there now. Besides, the title of this post makes it clear that he didn’t understand it.
Might not be misinterpretation – the visitor might be an auditor, the dropping guy a dishonest accountant who prefers death to jail.

The joke here is literal “drop by” vs. figurative “drop by”.
One of my pet peeves is that EVERY promo for the Tonight Show since Mr. Fallon took over is about who will be “dropping by”, as if it were mere happenstance that the actor from that new movie will be on a talk show to talk about being in a new movie, followed by a musician who is about to release, or has just released, some new music, now available from Amazon and on iTunes.
It bugs me enough that I refuse to watch. Won’t matter until I get a letter from Nielson, but maybe someday…
I think such a literal-minded chap would hardly have lived long enough even to go to school, let alone long enough to get a fat suit and a corporate job in a sky-scraping building.
